A quadripartite ministerial meeting was held in Amman today on the Palestinian issue. The meeting was attended by the foreign ministers (FMs) of Egypt, Jordan, Germany, France, and the European Union representative.

The FMs focused on exchanging views on the current status of the Middle East peace process and its consequences, and ways to advance the resumption of the peace process so as to reach a comprehensive and just political settlement of the Palestinian issue based on the principle of the two-state solution.

In a joint press conference with his French and Jordanian counterparts following the meeting, Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said that peace deals between Bahrain, the UAE, and Israel are an important step, stressing the importance of reaching a comprehensive solution that meets the demands of the Palestinian people.

Shoukry added there is ongoing communication with the Palestinian Authority to boost efforts aimed at establishing a Palestinian state on the basis of international accords.

“We are working on finding new frameworks that attract the participation of [conflict] parties towards greater interaction to push the peace process and reach a formula to end the conflict,” he continued.

On his part, Jordanian foreign minister Ayman Safadi stressed the importance of a two-state solution to the Palestinian and Israeli conflict.

Safadi said, "Comprehensive peace is a strategic choice for everyone. we all agree on the two-state solution as a basis for peace in the region," adding that the ball was now in Israel’s court to choose between peace and maintaining the status quo.

In addition, Germany’s Foreign Minister Heiko Maas welcomed the peace agreements, stressing via video-conference that they could be used as a way to resolve the Palestine-Israel conflict.

On the other hand, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said that there is no alternative to the two-state solution between Israel and Palestine.

He also hailed the recent peace agreements between Bahrain, UAE, and Israel, saying, "We are determined to achieve peace and stability in the region."

"The suspension by Israel of a planned annexation of the West Bank should be final,” he added.
