A phone call was held on Friday, between Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates, and Constantinos Kombos, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus.
The call came within the framework of regular communication to discuss ways to enhance the close relations between the two countries and to consult on regional developments.
During the call, both ministers praised the depth of the historical relations between the two friendly nations, which culminated in elevating ties between Egypt and Cyprus to a strategic partnership last April during President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's visit to Cyprus.
Abdelatty expressed his anticipation for continued coordination at all levels between both countries.
He also emphasized the importance of further boosting economic and trade cooperation and fast-tracking the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding the employment of Egyptian workers in Cyprus.
Furthermore, FM highlighted the significance of the trilateral cooperation mechanism between Egypt, Cyprus, and Greece across various levels, which strengthens the nature of the partnership among the three nations.
He stressed the necessity of continuously developing relations in the economic, trade, investment, and tourism sectors.
The two ministers also exchanged views on regional developments and ways to defuse tensions in the area.
Moreover, FM briefed his Cypriot counterpart on Egypt's ongoing efforts to lower escalation and contain tensions, emphasizing the necessity of prioritizing political and diplomatic solutions.
He also warned against the expansion of the conflict due to its severe repercussions on regional security and stability, international navigation, global trade, and supply chains.
For his part, Cypriot FM expressed his country's appreciation for Egypt's efforts and its endeavors to achieve calm and de-escalation in the region.
Additionally, both ministers agreed to sustain coordination and consultation within the framework of the strategic relations binding the two countries and to support all efforts aimed at reducing escalation.
