Egypt has condemned a suicide bomb attack that targeted Green Village, a fortified compound of foreign nationals in Kabul, Afghanistan and left scores dead and injured on Monday.

In a Wednesday statement, the foreign ministry said Egypt stands by the Afghan government and people in its war against terrorism.

It also offered condolences to the victims' families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

The police in Kabul said Wednesday that six foreign nationals were killed in Monday’s attack – five Nepalese and one Romanian.

“This attack, claimed by the Taliban, seeks to undermine current efforts to achieve durable peace for Afghanistan. Violence and the killings of civilians must stop once and for all, so peace the people of Afghanistan deserve and demand can become a reality.

The death toll in a massive tractor bomb explosion in Afghanistan's capital of Kabul has risen to 16 while 119 others were wounded, the Afghan Interior Ministry confirmed on Tuesday.

It is worth mentioning that Romanian leaders have paid tribute to the 43-year-old Romanian diplomat killed in Kabul in a suspected Taliban terror attack on the compound that hosts the embassy in Afghanistan.

Another Romanian embassy staffer was seriously injured in the attack, which started on Monday night and lasted several hours. He was expected to be transported to Europe to receive specialized treatment for his injuries.

The latest violence occurs as the US announced plans to withdraw its approximately 14,000 troops from Afghanistan, following an agreement reached with the Taliban that they will not allow the country to be used as a base for Al-Qaeda or other extremist groups planning terror attacks in the West. The deal has not yet been signed by US President Donald Trump, but he has made no secret of his wish to extricate the US from what he sees as an unwinnable war.
