The Committee of Qualifying Egyptian Films to OSCARS selected “Souad" to be Egypt’s representative at the Best Foreign Language Film award competition at OSCARS, media agencies reported on Friday.
The film will participate at the British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) in the category of international film.
It will compete against 18 films, and only five will be selected for the final round of the competition. The qualified films will be announced on November 3.
Last month, the two stars of the Egyptian film won the best actress award at Tribeca Film Festival.
Directed by Ayten Amin, the film stars Bassant Ahmed, and Basmala Elghaiesh.
The feature sheds light on the differences between the human’s identity in real life and social media through its main character, Souad.
She is 19 years old girl whose identity is shattered between real life and the virtual one, so her younger sister decides to try to look for answers with her about this identity crisis.
The film was selected to be premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, and Berlin International Film Festival.
It was the second feature directed by Amin after her successful feature Villa 69.
