Under the patronage of the Prime Minister, Dr. Khaled El-Anani, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, and Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (WTO), inaugurated today the 48th meeting of the Regional Committee of the World Tourism Organization for the Middle East in its forty-eighth session, which is chaired and hosted by Egypt represented by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities; it will hold its meetings on March 28 and 29 in Cairo.
Dr. Khaled Al-Anani started the meeting by giving a speech in his capacity as head of this regional committee, which Egypt won its presidency for two years 2022 and 2023 during the elections that were held during its 47th meeting last May in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities stressed the importance of the meeting today to draw a road map for the tourism industry in the Middle East, especially in light of the exceptional successive and extended circumstances that the world has been going through for two years.
Dr.Al-Anani spoke about what was discussed at the 24th General Assembly of the organization in Madrid, the capital city of Spain, a few months ago to recover from the negative repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic, especially on the tourism sector globally.
El-Anani talked about what Egypt has done in the field of health safety during the Corona crisis, as a package of precautionary measures was adopted in accordance with the recommendations issued by the World Health Organization (WHO), and through joint work with the Ministry of Health and Population and the concerned authorities in the Egyptian state, which encouraged the government to take a decision to restart hotel and tourist facilities in accordance with strict health procedures that guarantee the safety of visitors to the facilities and their workers.
The minister noted that the World Tourism and Travel Council (WTTC) has decided to grant Egypt a “Safe Travel Seal” on June 18, 2020.
