U.S. Government officials and energy companies are participating in the Egypt Petroleum Show (EGYPS) 2022 in Cairo from February 14-16.
The event is the leading energy exhibition in North Africa and the Mediterranean and will feature leading U.S. companies, such as Apache, AspenTech, Babcock & Wilcox, Baker Hughes, Bechtel, Chevron, Emerson, Exxon Mobil, and Halliburton.
U.S. Ambassador Jonathan R. Cohen, Senior Bureau Official for the Bureau of Energy Resources at the U.S. Department of State, Harry Kamian, and Director for Middle Eastern & African Affairs at the U.S. Department of Energy, Landon Derentz, will represent the U.S. Government at the event.
Highlighting the significance of U.S.-Egypt energy cooperation, Ambassador Cohen stated, “Our participation in EGYPS underscores the central role the energy sector plays in the U.S.-Egypt commercial partnership—a role that is even more important in light of Egypt hosting COP 27 this year. Egypt is an important regional energy hub for Africa, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East and has a proven track record of leadership in energy production, distribution, and security, as well as green technologies. The U.S. Government and private sector are proud to serve as partners in this vital work and to see a number of U.S. companies sign agreements to provide quality U.S. products and services for local projects.”
During EGYPS 2022, the Ambassador will witness several signing ceremonies between U.S. companies and the Government of Egypt, including:
Bechtel’s Front-End Engineering and Design contract for work on Egypt’s Suez Petro-Refinery project;
an initiative led by a consortium including Bechtel, Baker Hughes, and General Electric to decarbonize existing oil and gas facilities throughout Egypt;
Apache’s MOU with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resource to assist the ministry in training middle management employees;
AspenTech’s MOU with the Ministry of Petroleum to provide technical workshops, trainings, and certification programs; and
AmCham Egypt's Oil & Gas committee MOU with the Ministry of Petroleum to execute its training of middle management government employees as part of its Modernization Program
