The Ministry of Antiquities inaugurated the two tombs of Edo and Qar in the Eastern Cemetery of Pyramid Antiquities Region. They will be opened for visitors completing the restoration work.
This comes in the framework of the ministry policy to open archaeological tombs in the Pyramid Antiquities Region for visitors. The ministry will open some of the tombs after completing the restoration work. It will also close some of them for renovation.
The tombs of Seshemnefer IV and "Khufu Kha`a Af" were closed to begin the restoration work at them.
“The restoration work in Qar tomb included mechanical cleaning of the entire tomb.” The renovation strengthens the roof of the tomb at the entrance,” Ashraf Mohieddin, General Manager of Pyramid Antiquities Region. “The gaps in the upper part of the main hall walls were filled.”
"This tomb is located in the Eastern Cemetery of Pyramid Antiquities Region. It is a tomb carved in the rock dating back to the era of the Sixth Dynasty, the reign of King Pepi I Meryre," he added.
As for the Edo tomb, Mohieddin pointed out that it underwent mechanical cleaning; some parts of the roof, the weak and decaying parts of the mud bricks in the outside hall of the tomb were reinforced.
Mohieddin went on saying: "The tomb is located Eastern Cemetery of Pyramid Antiquities Region. It is carved in the rock and dates back to the era of the Sixth Dynasty, the reign of King Pepi I Meryre.
The owner of the cemetery is the son of Qar; he acted as the priest of the Pyramid of Pepi, the supervisor of the scribes and inspector of cleansed priests of the pyramid of Khufu and Khafra."
