The Dutch-Belgian film Reedland, written and directed by Sven Bresser, has been officially selected for the Critics’ Week Competition at the 46th Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF 46).
Reedland marks Bresser’s feature debut and follows a reclusive reed cutter, Johan, whose life is thrown into turmoil when he discovers the lifeless body of a young girl on his land. Caring for his granddaughter, Johan becomes deeply obsessed with uncovering the truth, which begins as a rural mystery and gradually transforms into a dark exploration of guilt, community, and the sinister secrets hiding in the landscape.
The atmospheric drama, set in the marshlands of the Netherlands, emphasizes a strong sense of place and character. Known for its slow-burning tension and visual richness, the film has already screened at Cannes’ Critics’ Week and been praised by international critics.
CIFF 46, running from 12 to 21 November 2025, continues to champion original cinematic voices from around the world—and Reedland’s selection aligns with that mission.
For Bresser, this marks a major milestone: his first feature is being introduced to Middle Eastern audiences on one of the region’s largest festival platforms.
The screening at CIFF 46 is expected to draw both critical attention and broader international interest, potentially boosting the film’s visibility ahead of wider distribution.
