The live-action “Dungeons & Dragons” TV adaptation has found new life.

Sources say that a new iteration of the project is currently in development at Netflix.

There had previously been a “DnD” series set up at Paramount+ with a series order, but that project ultimately did not move forward due to strategic shifts at Paramount as well as the sale of co-studio eOne by Hasbro. Hasbro Entertainment is also producing the new project.

The series is currently titled “The Forgotten Realms,” named after the famous “DnD” campaign setting.

Drew Crevello, who was previously attached as the showrunner of the Paramount+ project, will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner on the Netflix version.

Shawn Levy will executive produce along with Dan Levine via 21 Laps under the company’s overall TV deal with Netflix.

“Dungeons & Dragons” was originally created in 1974 by E. Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson in Lake Geneva, WI.

Considered one of the most influential games of all time, “DnD” sees players create characters from a wide range of fantasy races like elves, orcs, and dwarves and take part in elaborate role playing through a wide range of settings and stories.

Previous “Dungeons & Dragons” onscreen projects include an animated TV series in the 1980s and a series of live-action movies beginning in 2000. Most recently, the well-received action-comedy “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” grossed over $205 million worldwide in 2023.
