Canadian filmmaker Denis Villeneuve's “Dune” is officially getting the sequel treatment.
Legendary Entertainment announced Tuesday the news on Twitter, saying: "This is only the beginning... Thank you to those who have experienced "Dune" movie so far and those who are going in the days and weeks ahead. We're excited to continue the journey!".

Warner Bros. will distribute the movie and help finance it, however, Legendary will be the primary money behind the movie and owns the movie rights to Frank Herbert’s seminal science fiction bestseller of the same name.
It is centered around Paul Atreides, played by Timothée Chalamet, a scion of the noble House of Atreides that is tasked with overseeing the barren desert planet Arrakis, known as Dune.
A sequel to Arrakis was always part of the plan. Villeneuve was adamant in interviews that his adaptation to the novel would have two parts. In fact, the movie’s opening title sequence read “Dune: Part 1”.
“Dune: Part 2” will hit theaters on Oct. 20, 2023.
