Albanian singer Dua Lipa is set to star in the cast of Greta Gerwig's movie “Barbie” as a blue-haired mermaid.
She shared on Instagram a promotional image from the upcoming movie, and captioned: “This Barbie is a mermaid!! #BarbieTheMovie 💗🧜🏼♀️💕🌊”.
The poster shows Lipa, 27, in a long, wavy blue wig and a metallic blue shell top and what appears to be a blue-and-white mermaid tail on the bottom.
The “Levitating” singer also donned huge pearl earrings and a matching necklace entwined with blue beads, wearing very 1980s blue eye makeup and having a deep tan.
The movie’s official social media accounts also shared posters for Margot Robbie as the main Barbie and Ryan Gosling as the original Ken, alongside other co-stars such as Issa Rae, Nicola Coughlan, Hari Nef, Kate McKinnon, Emma Mackey, and more as different versions of the doll and various Kens, including Simu Liu.
Other surprise stars include Michael Cera, America Ferrera, Helen Mirren, Will Ferrell and more.
Gerwig directed the project from a script she co-wrote with Noah Baumbach.
Robbie is also producing the movie through her LuckyChap production company alongside LuckyChap’s Tom Ackerley.
The movie will also be produced by Mattel Films’ Robbie Brenner and Paddington’s David Heyman.
The reimagining will also feature new music from Lipa. She has recorded a song specifically for the pic.
The Barbie project dates back all the way to 2009, with Sony originally lining up Diablo Cody to write the script in 2014. Two years later, Amy Schumer was cast for the titular role from a script by Hilary Winston.
However, the project remained in development until Warner Bros. and Robbie picked it up in 2018, originally aiming for Patty Jenkins on directing duties.
"Barbie" is set to hit theaters on July 21.
In 2021, Dua Lipa announced she is making her acting debut in the spy thriller "Argylle", which has not yet been released.
Since then, she issued "Future Nostalgia" and its remix companion in 2020, the singer also collaborated on new material with Megan Thee Stallion and Calvin Harris.
Last year, the Grammy winner was named as an honorary ambassador of Kosovo by the country’s president.
