Dr. Abdel Azim El Gamal, Head of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Suez Canal University, has been recognized in Stanford University’s prestigious classification of the top 2% of scientists worldwide for the third consecutive year.
On September 16, 2024, Dr. Abdel Azim’s name was included in the list of the "Top 2% Scientists" worldwide according to the Stanford University classification, representing Egypt and Suez Canal University. This classification is based on a study published in the internationally renowned journal, Plos Biology, and includes over 200,000 scientists from 149 countries across 22 specializations.
The ranking is determined by several factors, including the number of research publications, their reliability, citation counts, the researcher’s Hirsch index (h-index), and the adjusted Hirsch index for co-authorship (hm-index). The classification is published by the renowned Elsevier Publishing House and is considered one of the most accurate and rigorous classifications due to its reliance on Scopus data.
This accomplishment reflects individual research efforts, as faculty members cover the costs of publishing in high-impact international scientific journals. The absence of subjective human influence in this assessment ensures fairness, eliminating bias, favoritism, or settling of scores.
In the latest update of the AD Scientific Index 2024, which ranks scientists, countries, and universities globally, Dr. El Gamal was listed among the top 3% in the field of microbiology worldwide, and among the top 10 researchers in microbiology in Egypt. He is also ranked first in the field of microbiology at Suez Canal University.
Additionally, Dr. El Gamal was recently selected as a senior collaborator in the Global Burden of Disease Network at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington, USA. He has also served as a referee for over 550 international research papers and has been appointed as an editor for numerous international journals, further representing Egypt on the global stage.
