The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) renewed actress and singer Donia Samir Ghanem's appointment as its Egypt Ambassador on Wednesday, extending a decade-long partnership aimed at promoting children's rights, with a renewed focus on child nutrition and girls' empowerment.
UNICEF said Ghanem, who has served as an ambassador since 2015, will continue supporting efforts to raise awareness of issues affecting children and young people in Egypt and across the region.
During the past 10 years, Ghanem has advocated for child protection, nutrition, girls' empowerment and children's participation, while also supporting fundraising campaigns for children affected by regional crises, UNICEF said.
The renewed partnership was announced at a high-level event attended by government officials, heads of national councils, diplomats, development partners, media representatives and children.
Under the new agreement, UNICEF and Ghanem will focus on improving child nutrition and supporting girls to access education, participate in society and achieve their full potential.
"Children's futures are shaped not only by policies and programmes, but also by the voices that inspire people to care and act," UNICEF Representative in Egypt Natalia Winder Rossi said. "Over the past decade, Donia Samir Ghanem has been one of those voices, and we are proud to continue this partnership on behalf of children."
In turn, the acclaimed actress reaffirmed her commitment to supporting children in Egypt and the wider Arab region.
"To every child in Egypt, across our Arab region, and beyond: I am with you, and my voice will always be an echo of your voices, your dreams, and your ambitions," she said.
Children participated in the event by sharing issues and rights they consider most important and engaging directly with Ghanem, highlighting the importance of amplifying children's voices in decision-making processes.
The event concluded with the signing of a renewed ambassador agreement, reaffirming a shared commitment to advancing children's rights in Egypt and beyond.
