Donatella Versace, 69, has announced her resignation as the main designer of the iconic fashion house "Versace", a role she has held for nearly three decades since the death of her brother, founder Gianni Versace, in 1997.
With Donatella's departure, Dario Vitale is set to take over the creative leadership starting next April, becoming the first designer outside the Versace family to assume this role, according to a statement posted by Donatella on her Instagram account.
During her tenure, Donatella succeeded in transforming Versace into one of the world's most prominent fashion houses, presenting iconic creations and exceptional fashion shows that have left their mark on fashion history.
In the statement, Donatella expressed her pride in her career, saying, "It has been the greatest honor of my life to continue my brother Gianni's legacy." She added, "I am excited to see Versace through fresh eyes."
Although she is stepping down from creative leadership, she will remain with the company as chief brand ambassador, focusing on developing charitable projects and initiatives that promote the brand's humanitarian values.
"The move, announced by owner Capri Holdings, opens new tab on Thursday, comes amid reports that Prada, opens new tab is moving closer to a deal to buy Versace from Capri after agreeing to a price of nearly 1.5 billion euros ($1.6 billion)," according to Reuters.

Dario Vitale hails from Miu Miu, where he led the brand's ready-to-wear design and visual identity.
In his first comment after his appointment, Vitale said, "I am honored to join Versace as Chief Creative Officer. It is an exceptional fashion house with a unique legacy that has shaped the history of fashion."
He added, "I thank Donatella for her trust in me, and I look forward to continuing the journey that has made Versace an enduring brand in the fashion world."
First Show Under New Leadership
Vitale is expected to unveil his first Versace look during his Spring/Summer 2026 show next September during Milan Fashion Week.
