CAIRO Sept 9 (SEE): A study by Stanford university said that slight changes in temperature is not the direct cause of suicide. However, climate changes might "increase the risk of suicide by affecting the likelihood that an inpidual situation leads to an attempt at self-harm."

Authors of the study added that climate changes increase asthma and allergies, heat-related stress, illness and injury related to storms, floods and droughts. These significant challenges certainly affects mental health.

Suicide rates in America have risen dramatically over the past 15 years; nearly 1 in 5 adult in the United Sates experiences mental illness.

The study reported that a traumatic life event such as loss of a job or child can push even "reasonably sane people over the edge."

A report by The American Public Health Association said that people get affected after losing their homes or a family member due to deadly natural disasters.

"Up to 54% of adults and 45% of children suffer depression after a natural disaster," the report added.
