Kahiau Machado has been cast as David Kawena, Nani’s love interest and Lilo’s friend, in Disney’s live-action "Lilo & Stitch".
The remake also features newcomer Maia Kealoha as Lilo, Sydney Elizebeth Agudong as her older sister Nani, and Zach Galifianakis in an unknown role. Stitch, naturally, will be a CG confection.
Dean Fleischer Camp, the filmmaker behind indie darling and best-animated feature Oscar nominee Marcel the Shell With Shoes On, is directing the pic that is intended to be a major release on Disney+.
"Lilo & Stitch" follows the friendship formed between a lonely human girl named Lilo and an alien named Stitch, who is engineered to be a force of destruction.
Chris Kekaniokalani Bright penned the script for the adaptation. Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois wrote and directed the original feature, which was not an initial hit but still developed a loyal fan base.
The animated movie spawned a franchise that includes three direct-to-video sequels, starting with "Stitch! The Movie", and three television series, including the sequel series "Lilo & Stitch: The Series" as well as spin-offs "Stitch! "and "Stitch & Ai".
Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback are producing. Rideback’s Ryan Halprin is executive producing.
The live-action movie was announced in 2018. Disney revived many of its animated movies in the past period such as "The Lion King", "Beauty and the Beast", "Aladdin", and "Mulan".
