In the heart of the German capital, Mr. Sherif Fathy, Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, officially inaugurated the Egyptian pavilion today at the 60th edition of ITB Berlin (2026). This year’s participation is particularly significant as the world’s leading travel trade show celebrates its Diamond Jubilee, marking 60 years of global tourism legacy.
The inauguration was attended by Dr. Mohamed El-Badri, Egypt’s Ambassador to Berlin, along with a high-level delegation from the Egyptian Tourism Authority (ETA).
Strategic Growth: Germany as a Key Powerhouse
Minister Sherif Fathy underscored the vital importance of the German market, which witnessed a robust 11.4% growth in 2025 compared to the previous year. Germany currently holds the second-place spot among Egypt’s top ten source markets for inbound tourism.
"ITB Berlin is the ultimate global platform for exchanging trends and shaping the future of tourism," the Minister stated. He emphasized that Egypt’s presence aims to cement partnerships with major tour operators and airlines to further accelerate the momentum of German arrivals.
A Message of Stability and Confidence
During an extensive tour of the pavilion, which spans 1,500 square meters, the Minister met with 111 Egyptian exhibitors, including travel agencies, hotels, and airlines. Addressing the industry's performance, he provided a reassuring outlook:
"Egypt enjoys safety and stability. There are no significant cancellations in bookings, save for very limited instances," the Minister confirmed, reinforcing confidence in the Egyptian destination.
Beyond Ancient Monuments: Al Ahly and Giza Zoo
The Egyptian pavilion this year highlights a diverse range of attractions beyond traditional archaeology:
The Giza Zoo: The Minister reviewed the latest modernizations of the historic zoo ahead of its highly anticipated reopening.
Al Ahly SC: The presence of Africa’s "Club of the Century" highlights Egypt’s sports tourism potential.
Red Sea Resorts: Specialized displays showcased the world-class hospitality of Egypt’s premier coastal destinations.
Global Reach and Legacy
Under the theme "Discover the stories behind 60 years of legacy," ITB Berlin 2026 hosts over 5,600 exhibitors from 180 countries, attracting more than 100,000 visitors. The event is backed by a massive media presence of 3,200 journalists and 300 global bloggers, providing Egypt with an unparalleled window to the world.
The Egyptian delegation included Dr. Ahmed Youssef, CEO of the ETA, and senior officials across marketing and international offices, all focused on a unified mission: positioning Egypt as the world’s most compelling and diverse travel destination for 2026.
