The Arab world and the UNISCO are celebrating the International Day of Arabic Language, also known as language of holy Quran.

The day aims to highlight the numerous contributions of Arabic to humanity’s cultural and linguistic diversity, as well as to knowledge production.

The theme of this year is “The Contribution of the Arabic Language to Human Civilization and Culture”.

To celebrate this annual occasion, UNISCO will hold a live mural calligraphy throughout the entire day. The celebration will conclude with a night concert organized in collaboration with the Permanent Delegation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to UNESCO, in partnership with the Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Foundation.

Also, the ceremony concedes with the International Decade for the Rapprochement of Cultures (2013-2022), for which UNESCO is the lead UN Agency.

“As UNESCO believes in the power of culture as a force for peace, dialogue and mutual understanding, these performances are intended to raise awareness of the numerous ways in which Arabic language contributes to cultural diversity spreading a message of hope,” UNESCO said in a statement.

Dec.18 was chosen by UNESCO as the date for the Arabic language, which belongs to the Semitic language family, as it is "the day in 1973 when the General Assembly approved Arabic as an official UN language".
