Daqahliya Governor, Major General Tarek Marzouk, welcomed Dr. Zahi Hawass, the former Minister of Antiquities and renowned archaeologist, during his visit to the governorate today. The visit was part of Dr. Hawass’ participation in a doctoral thesis discussion at Mansoura University.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Ahmed El-Adl, Deputy Governor; Dr. Ehab Mansour, Governor's Assistant; and Mr. Ali Abu Deshish, Director of the Zahi Hawass Foundation for Archaeology and Heritage.
During the reception, Governor Marzouk addressed Dr. Hawass, saying, *“The governorate is honored today by the visit of a distinguished archaeologist. We look forward to future cooperation to highlight the historical and archaeological landmarks of the governorate, making them a key destination for tourists and placing Daqahliya firmly on the archaeological and tourism map.”*
In turn, Dr. Zahi Hawass expressed his delight at visiting the historic Daqahliya Governorate, which was once the capital of Egypt during two ancient dynasties. He highlighted its significant archaeological sites, including Tell El-Muqdam in Mit Ghamr and Tell El-Ruba in Tamiya El-Amdeed. Dr. Hawass also praised Daqahliya for producing prominent figures across various fields, including religion, literature, arts, and politics.
At the end of the visit, Governor Marzouk presented Dr. Zahi Hawass with the Governorate Shield in recognition of his achievements and his visit to Daqahliya.
