Following "28 Years Later: Bone Temple," Danny Boyle is eager to finish the trilogy as soon as possible.
The Oscar-winning director recently noted that he would have liked to have filmed "28 Years Later III" consecutively with the previous two movies, but he “literally ran out of time” with the location.
“We ran out of time,” he told JoBlo. “Because it’s set in an area of Britain [where] you can only film at certain times of the year. We ran out of time this year – we literally ran out of time… So it’ll be, hopefully, fingers crossed next year. But there’s the enthusiasm there, and Alex (Garland) has done a wonderful script for it.”
In December, Sony was reported to be moving forward with "28 Years Later III," with Alex Garland returning to write.
Boyle has previously expressed interest in returning to the director’s chair for the final chapter of the trilogy.
When Sony won rights to the "28 Years Later" trilogy, it had the option for the third movie but waited to greenlight it.
Rather, it shot the first two movies back-to-back, with Boyle returning to direct last year’s "28 Years Later," and Nia DaCosta helming the follow-up "28 Years Later: The Bone Temple," which premiered earlier this year.
Written by Garland and directed by Boyle, the British zombie franchise began in 2002 with "28 Days Later," followed by "28 Weeks Later" (2007).
Following his appearance at the end of "28 Years Later: Bone Temple," Cillian Murphy recently teased that he hopes to reprise his role as Jim from the original 2002 movie, once again for "28 Years Later III."
