Canadian director and playwright Celine Song is reuniting with A24 for her second feature following her breakout directorial debut “Past Lives,” with an A-list cast in talks to star.

Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans are in talks to lead the romantic comedy “Materialists,” which reteams Song with A24, Killer Films, and 2AM. A24 will handle the global release of the pic, with a rumored launch at the European Film Market in Berlin.

“Materialists,” which Song revealed would be her follow-up to “Past Lives” late last year, is a New York-set rom-com following a high-end matchmaker who gets involved with a wealthy man.

The roles Johnson, Pascal, and Evans would be playing have not been disclosed.

As with “Past Lives,” producers on the project include Christine Vachon, Pamela Koffler for Killer Films, and David Hinojosa of 2AM. It’s believed to start production in May.

After premiering at Sundance in 2023, Song’s debut feature, starring Greta Lee, Teo Yoo, and John Magaro, would go on to become one of the most talked about films of the year. Its success underlined Song as an exciting new cinematic voice, and the film was listed in numerous “best of” lists and has become a major fixture of awards season.

Among a lengthy list of accolades, “Past Lives” received five Golden Globe nominations and is currently in the running for two Academy Awards (Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay).

It also received three BAFTA Film Awards nominations (Best Actor, Best Original Screenplay, Best Film not in the English Language). The movie has so far made more than $20 million at the global box office.
