The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Cairo hosted a captivating cultural event on Wednesday with the opening of "Creation – Myth – Art," an exhibition that fuses contemporary Czech artistry with ancient Egyptian mythology.

Organized in collaboration with the Czech Centres, the Czech Institute of Egyptology, and Kampus Hybernská Gallery, the exhibition brings a fresh dialogue between past and present, science and art, to the heart of Cairo.

The event began outdoors with a guided tour of the exhibited works along the embassy walls on Dokki Street.

Furthermore, visitors were invited to explore the artworks while hearing the rich stories behind them by the author Jiří Janák.

The narration wove together insights from ancient Egyptian religion and contemporary interpretations, giving audiences a vivid understanding of the myth of creation.

Following the outdoor tour, guests moved indoors for a formal presentation.

The Czech Ambassador to Egypt, Ivan Jukl, delivered an opening speech, highlighting the importance of cultural exchange and the universal power of myth in inspiring creativity across generations and borders.

A highlight of the evening was the insightful conversation with Janák, academic supervisor of the project and a researcher at the Czech Institute of Egyptology.

Janák elaborated on how the ancient myth serves as a meaningful narrative to explain the world and how it inspired Czech artists to create works that blend historical narratives with contemporary artistic expression.

In addition, the artistic process was deeply discussed, highlighting the dialogue between art, history, and mythology, giving audiences a rare glimpse into the minds behind the exhibition.

Featuring works by contemporary Czech artists of different generations and styles, the exhibition bridges temporal and cultural gaps, demonstrating how ancient stories continue to resonate today.

The names of the artists are: Karíma Al-Mukhtarová, Jan Bažant, Daniel Balabán, Radka Bodzewicz, Veronika Holcová, Ditta Jiříčková, Lenka Jirková Táborská, Alžběta Josefy, Lída Kejmarová, Svatopluk Klimeš, Petr Košárek, Jan Kuntoš, Martin Mainer, Silvie Milková, Petr Nikl, Marian Palla, Karolína Rossí, Miloš Šejn, Robert Smolík, Pavel Skrott, Aleš Svoboda, Tereza Šrámková, Zdeněk Trs, and Martin Zetová.

Originally presented on a larger scale in Prague in 2025, Creation – Myth – Art is now presented to Cairo audiences in a uniquely accessible display.

The event also included an announcement of an open call for Egyptian artists, encouraging local creatives to contribute works inspired by the myth of creation, fostering a growing collaboration between Czech and Egyptian contemporary art communities.
