Under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Dr. Enas Abdel-Dayem, Minister of Culture, announced in a press conference the details of the 51st Edition of Cairo International Book Fair.
The Fair will be held from 22 January to 2 February at Egypt Center for International Conferences and Exhibitions.
The Fair will host the state of Senegal as a guest of honor , choosing Dr. Gamal Hamdan as the distinct figure of this edition.
The press conference was attended by Dr. Haitham Al-Hajj, Head of The General Book Authority, Ambassador Elie Saibi, Ambassador of Senegal in Cairo, Waheed Atallah, Vice President of the National Company for Exhibitions and Conferences, Mohamed Rashad, Head of the Arab Publishers Union, Saeed Abdo, Head of Egyptians Publishers Union.
Abdel-Dayem thanked President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, for sponsoring Cairo International Book Fair, which comes as an confirmation of the power of creativity and its capacity to build personality and promote the conscience.
She asserted the role of reading in creating enlightened minds, adding that the fair represents one of Egypt's restoration of its cultural leadership, especially in its new headquarter which suits Egypt historical position.
The Fair, as a national event, highlights the luminous face of Egypt.
On his part, Ambassador of Senegal expressed his happiness with choosing his country as a guest of honor for this edition; this comes within the framework of consolidating the bonds of friendship between the two countries. It also indicates that this participation reflects different branches of culture in Senegal.
On the other hand, the head of the Book Authority said that the fair began a new stage in its history, starting with the celebration of its golden jubilee last year.
Dr. Al-Hajj said that the Minister of Culture, head of the higher committee of Cairo International Book Fair, had formed a committee to follow up the final preparations and to solve the obstacles that appeared during the activities of last year.
Dr. Al-Hajj indicated that this edition is witnessed increasing in the number of pavilions, with the participation of 900 publishing houses, in addition to 41 libraries from Al- Azbakeya Fence.
He continued that, for the first time, an electronic application was launched to facilitate and describe the locations of the publishing houses for the visitors, providing data about the publications and accompanying activities and their agenda.
Furthermore, President of the Union of Arab Publishers said that Cairo International Book Fair is the largest specialized forum in the region, adding that all the participating publishers seeking to present their recent publications in it, as it is on the top of their annual agenda.
He pointing out that there are many facilities provided by the Ministry of Culture to support the industry of publishing.
The President of the Egyptian Publishers Union said that the participation requests increased this year after the success of the previous edition, in the new location. It is worthy of note that more than 95% of the participation requests were accepted according to the approved restrictions.
At the end of the conference, The Minister of Culture inspected the preparations of the Egyptian Center for Exhibitions and International Conferences to check the equipment for the participating wings.
