Neon unveiled the release date for renowned filmmaker David Cronenberg’s new movie “Crimes of the Future”.
The movie is set for theatrical release less than a month after it bows in the official competition of the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.
“Crimes of the Future” opens in New York and LA on June 3, and in wide release on June 10.
It stars Viggo Mortensen, Kristen Stewart, Léa Seydouxon, Scott Speedman, Welket Bungué, Don McKellar, Lihi Kornowski, and others.
The movie has been 20 years in the making and is written and directed by Cronenberg. The production marks the filmmaker’s first original sci-fi script since 1999’s “EXistenZ“.
The movie is set in the not-so-distant future where humankind is learning to adapt to its synthetic surroundings. This evolution alters humans’ biological makeup. While some embrace the limitless potential of transhumanism, others attempt to police it. Either way, ‘Accelerated Evolution Syndrome”, is spreading fast.
Robert Lantos will produce via his Serendipity Point Films with Neon on board for the project, releasing the movie in the U.S. Mile End will distribute in Canada, and Rocket Science is handling International Sales.
“Crimes of the Future” also marks the first time the director has worked with Mortensen in around a decade since they last teamed up on the 2011 “A Dangerous Method”.
It also witnesses the fourth collaboration between Lantos and Cronenberg, who teamed on “Eastern Promises”, “EXistenZ”, and “Crash”.
The movie also marks the second collaboration between Mortensen and Stewart, who teamed on the 2012 movie “On the Road”.
