On Thursday, Israeli Prime Minister (PM) Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Benny Gantz decided to impose a national lockdown starting from Sunday, to curb the spread of COVID-19 infections, according to Sputnik news agency.
The lockdown will come into force on Sunday at 5:00 pm and will last for two weeks. it will be extended for another two weeks if infection rates do not decrease significantly.
It is worth mentioning that, on Wednesday, Israeli Health Ministry has confirmed the detection of 4 cases of the new mutant COVID-19 coming from the UK.
In a statement, the Israeli Health Minister Yuli Edelstein said three of the cases were people who recently returned from the UK and are staying in a state-run quarantine hotel, noting that the ministry is attempting to track down the source of the fourth case.
