On Sunday, Canadian Prime Minister (PM) Justin Trudeau said that he will receive the COVID-19 vaccine publicly once people in his age group start getting vaccinated, according to Sputnik news agency.

Canada has begun vaccinating people in high-risk groups with the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, including frontline health care workers, residents, and nursing home workers.

In an interview with Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), Trudeau said "Certainly when my turn comes, I will do so publicly and enthusiastically.''

He pointed out that he "will follow the recommendations of public health experts."

"Whenever, you know, healthy adults in their 40s are open to getting vaccines, I'll be getting vaccinated," said the prime minister, who turns 49 on Christmas Day, December 25.

Last March, the wife of the Canadian PM, Sophie Gregoire, tested positive for COVID-19. He spent two weeks in self-quarantine.

On Sunday, he said, "He may have been suffering from an extremely mild case of the disease."

It is worth mentioning that, Canada expects to receive additional vaccine doses soon from Pfizer and Moderna suppliers, once health officials approve the latest vaccine.
