Coronavirus Infections in Africa near 11.5 Mln, ACDC Says

The Africa Centres for Disease Control (ACDC) and Prevention announced that the total coronavirus infections in the continent reached nearly 11.5 million cases, representing 3% of the total infections worldwide.

Moreover, the death rate linked to COVID-19 virus reached 4.2%; on the other hand, the total number of recovered cases surpassed 9,500,00 cases in the whole continent.

South Africa witnessed the biggest recorded COVID-19 infections in the continent, followed by Morocco (1,163,109), Tunisia (1,035,884), Egypt (505,264), Libya (501,610), Ethiopia (469,679), and Kenya (323,395).

Last February, the Africa Centres for Disease Control (ACDC) and Prevention announced the percentage of the vaccinated in Africa, media agencies reported on Friday.

ACDC revealed that 12.13% of the continent’s residents are fully vaccinated, 17.34% received one dose, and 0.82% received booster shots.

The institution reflected that 11 million and 65,000 infections were recorded and 10 million and 205,000 were recovered.

Regarding the deaths related to COVID-19, 4.2% of the total deaths are related to COVID-19. It reached 3% of the total infections worldwide.

48 countries reported the presence of the Alpha variant, 44 countries reported the presence of the Beta variant, 47 states declared the existence of Delta, 39 registered Omicron cases, and six states recorded cases of Gama.

53 countries faced the third wave, and 46 states suffered from the fourth wave, and only eight countries faced the fifth wave.
