“Who’s got a bump?” That was Club Kid director Jordan Firstman joking in the emotional moments after the film, his feature debut as writer-director-star, received a seven-minute standing ovation after its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.

It was an appropriately jocular sentiment, given the film seems to be the first to really juice up an audience here in Cannes. There were lots of big laughs and, of course, an extended applause.

During the ovation, lead actress Cara Delevingne teared up.

Firstman, who also wrote and stars, picked up costar Reggie Absolom (who plays the son of Firstman’s character in the film) and started a chant in his honor.

It was a continuation of the hijinks the two got up to at the film’s photocall earlier in the day. For a glimpse at that, see the photo at the bottom of this story.

"Club Kid" follows a washed-up party promoter who is forced to turn his life around when an unexpected visitor arrives.

There’s sure to be a battle for this film in the market. In fact, for some, there was a battle just to get into the premiere. Some attendees with tickets were even turned away.

Firstman is best known for his skits on Instagram and TikTok, as well as TV roles including Rachel Sennott’s “I Love L.A.,” “Ms. Marvel,” “English Teacher” and a guest appearance on “Hacks.”

He has previously written and directed two short films, 2016’s “Call Your Father,” which premiered at Sundance Film Festival, and 2017’s “Men Don’t Whisper.”

Firstman also starred in Sebastián Silva’s black comedy thriller “Rotting in the Sun” (2023), in which he played himself.

Last year, he released his debut comedy album, “Secrets,” which was based on confessions his followers sent to his Instagram account and subsequently went viral.

“Club Kid” marks Firstman’s first time at Cannes Film Festival.
