A24 is taking an opportunity with a blank spot on the calendar for a wide release, on April 12, and moving its action epic "Civil War" to that weekend.

It was originally set to go on April 26, but now A24 will have access to Imax auditoriums on its new date. The movie also moves away from a weekend that had the Zendaya-starring tennis dramedy "Challengers" from Amazon MGM Studios and Lionsgate’s "Unsung Hero".

The movie stars Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Cailee Spaeny, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Sonoya Mizuno, Nick Offerman, and more.

Set in the near future, the movie revolves around the U.S. amid civil war, where government air strikes are used against civilians and journalists are shot on sight in the Capitol.

“A race to the White House in a near-future America balanced on the razor’s edge,” the official logline reads.

“Civil War” is directed and written by Alex Garland. A24 produces alongside Gregory Goodman and DNA’s Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich. It has a runtime of 109 minutes.

DNA previously teamed with Garland for “Ex Machina”, “Annihilation”, and “Men”. Goodman’s past producing credits include “Three Kings,” “8 Mile,” “Captain Phillips” and “22 July.”

Garland received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay for 2014’s “Ex Machina,” which also won an Oscar for achievement in visual effects.

He followed the critically acclaimed feature with 2018’s “Annihilation” and the FX series “Devs”. In 2022, A24 released Garland’s previous film “Men,” starring Jessie Buckley and Rory Kinnear.
