The 54th edition of the Cairo International Book Fair (CIBF 54) witnessed a huge turnout on the event's first day for the public, on Thursday.
Dr. Neven El Killany, the Minister of Culture, announced that the first day of the CIBF, Thursday, saw 131,250 visitors.
El Kilany added that this massive turnout reflected the reading passion of Egyptians, and their appreciation of books, writers, and publishers. She also described the book fair as a celebration of culture.
On his side, Dr. Ahmed Bahei Al-Din, the director of the Egyptian Book Authority, explained that the data was identified by the number of sold tickets, and the number of online bookings on the event's website.
The 54th edition takes place between 25 January and 6 February under the theme of "On Egypt's Name- Together: Read, Think, Create."
Iconic late poet Salah Jahin is the figure of the CIBF, and author Kamil Kilany is the children's fair figure. Moreover, Jordan is the 54th edition guest of honor.
1047 publishers are participating in the event from 53 countries.
This edition will also present 500 various activities in seven halls at the Egypt International Exhibitions Center in New Cairo.
The working hours for Thursdays and Fridays will be between 10 am and 9 pm.
