Egypt’s Cairo International Book Fair has set a new attendance record, attracting more than 5 million visitors in its first 10 days, organizers said Saturday.
The fair’s 57th edition drew 5,084,212 visitors since opening, including nearly half a million on Saturday alone, underscoring sustained public interest in cultural events. Culture Minister Ahmed Fouad Hanno said the milestone reflects “a collective effort” across the ministry and strong cooperation among government bodies, publishers’ unions and the exhibition center.
The surge boosted book sales across Ministry of Culture outlets and private publishers, signaling growing cultural engagement, officials said.
Held under President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi’s patronage, the fair runs through Feb. 3 at Egypt International Exhibition Center. Romania is this year’s guest of honor, while Nobel laureate Naguib Mahfouz is celebrated as the fair’s central figure.
