American actress Christina Ricci, who played Wednesday Addams in the '90s Addams Family franchise, has joined the cast of Netflix's series Wednesday.

She will be a major part of the live-action show from Tim Burton, which is headlined by Jenna Ortega in the title role.

Ricci is playing a new character, who is similar to the one originally played by Thora Birch and will replace it on the series.

In December 2021, Birch left the series, citing a "personal matter".

It focuses on Wednesday Addams' years as a student at Nevermore Academy. It is described as a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery.

The series is written by "Smallville" creators Al Gough and Miles Millar and directed by Burton.

Ricci next appear in the Season 2 of Showtime’s breakout hit "Yellowjackets". She was last seen in Amazon’s "Z: The Beginning of Everything", which she produced, and "The Matrix: Resurrections".
