Chris Pine Joins Emma Stone in Rom-Com "The Catch"; Release Date Set

Chris Pine has joined Emma Stone in Universal‘s rom-com "The Catch," set for release next spring.

Pine was recently reported to be in early talks to join Stone in the upcoming pic, directed by Dave McCary.

Plot details remain unknown other than it being described as a two-hander rom-com.

Patrick Kang and Michael Levin penned the spec script with the most recent draft by Jen Statsky (Hacks) and Travis Helwig.

Stone had been weighing several options for the fall, but after a recent draft came in on "The Catch," she turned her attention to the project. Once Pine was on board, the film was a go for later this year.

Shawn Levy and Dan Levine will produce through 21 Laps. Michael H. Weber will produce.

Stone, McCary, and Ali Herting will also produce through Fruit Tree.

Universal signed Fruit Tree to a first-look deal after landing the film in 2024. Robin Fisichella will executive produce.

Universal’s Senior EVP Production Development Erik Baiers and Director of Production Development Jacqueline Garell will oversee the project on behalf of the studio.

"The Catch" is set to open in theaters on May 21, 2027.
