Chris Hemsworth and Idris Elba will reunite for “Extraction 3.”

Netflix has greenlit a third installment in the action series, with Sam Hargrave returning to direct and David Weil on board to write the screenplay.

The story is based on the graphic novel “Ciudad” by Ande Parks. Principal photography is set to start over the summer.

Netflix is concealing the logline for “Extraction 3.” In the first film, Hemsworth puts himself through the wringer as former black ops mercenary Tyler Rake, who embarks on a mission to save a drug lord’s kidnapped son. Things go awry when he’s double-crossed, with Hemsworth’s character seemingly dying at the end.

However, the movie became very popular on Netflix when it debuted in spring 2020, so the streamer revived him for another round.

The sequel picks up as Tyler Rake, back from the brink of death, gets hired to rescue a ruthless gangster’s family from prison. It’s safe to assume the threequel will see Tyler Rake in another precarious situation as he tries to liberate the kin of some dangerous man. Golshifteh Farahani is also returning.

“Extraction 3” has a slew of producers including Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, Michael Disco, and Ari Costa for AGBO; Hemsworth and Benjamin Grayson for Wild State; and Hargrave Patrick Newall, Eric Gitter and Peter Schwerin.

This marks AGBO’s seventh film with Netflix, a collaboration that includes “The Gray Man” and “The Electric State.”

The companies announced two more projects, a TV series starring Omar Sy, and a South Korean film with Don Lee, Lee Jin-uk, and Lalisa Manobal.
