Australian actor Chris Hemsworth's action movie “Extraction“ is getting threequel.

The action star and director Sam Hargrave made the announcement at Netflix’s Tudum 2023 event in Brazil, following the June 16 premiere of “Extraction 2”.

The first two movies center is based on the graphic novel Ciudad by Ande Park and stars Hemsworth as Tyler Rake, a former Australian special forces operator turned mercenary that is tasked with saving the son of a crime lord who is kidnapped.

In the first movie, Tyler takes on a mission to save an Indian crime lord’s son, but it pushes him to the brink of death. “Extraction 2” picks up with Tyler recovering from the assignment, but then he decides to embark on another risky task in order to save the family of a famed Georgian gangster.

The sequel sees Hemsworth reuniting with Thor co-star, Idris Elba, the latter portrays the Man in the Suit, a mysterious figure who kicks off the plot by offering Rake an irresistible — and perhaps impossible — mission.

Director Sam Hargrave returns for the sequel, as do producers Anthony and Joe Russo, who previously teamed with Hemsworth on “Avengers: Endgame”.

Hargrave, whose directorial debut was the first “Extraction”, has lent his stunt expertise to the franchise’s second movie as well. He previously worked as a stunt coordinator with the Russos on “Avengers: Endgame”, “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Captain America: Civil War.”

The stuntman-turned-director stunned fans with the sequel’s use of a singular shot for a 21-minute action sequence.

The high-octane action sequel began shooting in November 2021 and wrapped production in April 2022.

“Extraction” included the likes of Rudhraksh Jaiswal, Randeep Hooda, Pankaj Tripathi, and David Harbour.

The sequel also features Golshifteh Farahani and Adam Bessa as Nik and Yaz Khan, members of Rake’s mercenary crew, and introduces newcomers Daniel Bernhardt and Tinatin Dalakishvili.

Extraction

The first “Extraction” was released in April 2020 and was a major hit for Netflix. It was the most-watched original film premiere in the streaming service’s history, reaching 99 million households in its first four weeks of release.

The movie was the most-streamed title during its debut weekend, then later re-entered the Top 10 releases during the Fourth of July weekend. “Extraction” ended up as the fourth most-watched streaming film of 2020.

In an interview, the film's writer Joe Russo gave insight into how different the sequel is from the first movie and that it has a different color schematic.

"It's set in a different part of the world. It has a different pace, a different tone than the first one. And that, to us, is an interesting way to approach serializing a story, is that it's more surprising and unexpected, and you're not going to get the exact same movie that you got the last time out." he added.
