Avengers and Materialists star Chris Evans is joining the dark comic crime thriller "My Darling California," the next project for writer-director Elijah Bynum (Magazine Dreams).

Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty), Chris Pine (Star Trek), Mikey Madison (Anora), Don Cheadle (Ocean’s franchise), and Charles Melton (May December) will lead the buzzy movie.

Set in Los Angeles, "My Darling California" will chart how a single crime weaves together the lives of a TV host, his restless wife, a country music idol, two small-time crooks and an ex-con, all of whom are chasing the promise of a better life.

Evans takes over from previously announced Josh Brolin, who dropped out due to scheduling.

Anton (Greenland) is fully financing the film and will continue international sales on the project at the upcoming Cannes market. Anton and CAA Media Finance co-represent U.S. and global rights

Producing are David Hinojosa (Materialists), Alex Coco (Anora), and Sébastien Reybaud (Greenland). Zach Nutman will be executive producing.

Principal photography is being lined up for late summer/September.

Behind the camera, Bynum is collaborating with an impressive crew: Chayse Irvin (BlacKkKlansman) as DoP, editor Leslie Jones (The Master), production designer Judy Becker (The Brutalist) and costume designer Erin Benach (Drive).

The writer-director first broke out in 2017 with A24 film "Hot Summer Nights," starring Timothée Chalamet and Maika Monroe, and followed with the 2023 Sundance buzz title "Magazine Dreams".
