As the West seeks to put pressure on Moscow in the aftermath of the invasion of Ukraine, a Chinese government official, Le Yucheng, stated on Saturday that 'sanctions against Russia are getting more and more outrageous.'

'History has repeatedly demonstrated that cannot fix issues,' Le Yucheng remarked. A Chinese government official warned that Western sanctions against Russia over Ukraine are "more outrageous."

The Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng also acknowledged Moscow's position on NATO, saying the alliance should not expand eastwards to drive a nuclear power like Russia "into a corner."

China has yet to condemn Russia's actions in Ukraine or label them an invasion, despite its significant concern about the conflict.

Beijing has criticised Russia's economic sanctions over Ukraine, claiming that they are unilateral and unapproved by the UN Security Council.

"The sanctions against Russia are getting more and more absurd," Le remarked at a security symposium in Beijing, adding that Russian citizens' overseas assets are being taken away "for no reason."

"History has repeatedly demonstrated that it is impossible to solve issues. Sanctions will only affect regular people, negatively influence the economy and financial system, and exacerbate the global economic crisis."
