China Develops over Half of the World's Humanoid Robots

China has developed more than 400 humanoid robot models, accounting for over half of the global total, according to new data released by the country's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

Official figures show Chinese-made quadruped robots captured around 70% of global sales in the first half of 2026, highlighting the country's growing dominance in the robotics industry.

China's industrial robot exports rose 18.6% year-on-year to 6.29 billion yuan (about $926 million) during the first six months of 2026, reaching 141 countries and regions. Officials said China became a net exporter of industrial robots in 2025 after exports exceeded imports for the first time.

The country also reported rapid growth in medical robotics, with surgical robot exports more than tripling from a year earlier. Exports of smart robots, including humanoid, robotic dog and bio-inspired models, as well as robotic cleaning devices, totaled 18.09 billion yuan in the first half of 2026, reflecting strong global demand for Chinese robotics technology.
