The opening ceremony of the 42nd Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) kicked off today, displaying various moments that drew the audience's attention.
Christopher Hampton Recalls His Alexandria Memories
Award-winning scriptwriter Sir. Christopher Hampton breathtakingly narrated his memories in Alexandria. During his warm speech, Hampton quoted Goethe who expressed that the best connection is the one between the "beginning of your life and your end."
Hampton spent part of his childhood in Alexandria and his family had to leave the cosmopolitan heart of the city after the Nationalization of the Suez Canal.
He repeated the name of Egypt several times and he sent his greetings to Egypt especially after honoring him in the festival.

Tamer Hosny Spontaneous Performance
Celebrated Egyptian singer Tamer Hosny performed a new song at the Cairo International Film Festival. His performance characterized by Hosny's spontaneous and catchy.
The audience at the venue interacted warmly with his performance. Moreover, famous actors Ahmed El Sakka and Ahmed Helmy danced with Hosny.

Wahid Hamed's Heart Whelming Speech
Veteran scriptwriter Wahid Hamed was honored today and awarded The Golden Pyramid Prize for Life Achievement.
He sent overwhelming messages that drove the audience to shed their tears. He asserted, "Thankfully, I am here with real cinema lovers. I love Cinema adorably and loyally. I hope my films impressed you."
He recalls various moments from his career back to the stage especially his journey with director Sherif Arafa who directed a big number of Hamed's films.
Also, he remembered the former director of the festival Youssef Sherif Rezallah who invited Hamid for the first time to CIFF years ago. Then, he greeted his soul.

Mona Zaki's Dream Comes True
During the ceremony, Mona Zaki attracted the audience as she will be awarded the Faten Hamama Excellencey Award. Zaki stepped to the stage and was handed the award by her long-time friend Menna Shalaby.
Zaki expressed, "I remember, I used to play some performances at the El Hanager theater. Every time I pass before the building of the Cairo Opera House, I wish I could stand on its stage, stand here!"
"I am happy because I am honored in the same edition with the great Wahid Hamed, so I am recalling this sentence from his "El Lee'b Maa' El Kobaar," she continued.
"I dream, I dream, I dream," she performed.
Finally, she expressed her happiness, standing on the stage she hoped to step onto it.

Legend Honors Legend
Legendary Egyptian director Youssry Nasrallah honored his role model Federico Fellini, the legendary Italian director as the festival is celebrating his 100th birth anniversary.
He said, "I was almost 16 years old when I went to the cinema and watched a film directed by Fellini."
He continued, "Fellini filled our lives with the sweetest dreams and most dramatic nightmares."

Honoring "Setasher"
Before the end of the ceremony, CIFF President Mohamed Hefzy honored Sameh Alaa, "Setasher" (I am Afraid to Forget Your Face" film director.
The Egyptian short film "Setasher" was the first short Egyptian film to the won Palme d'Or at the Cannes Festival last month.
