The organizing committee of “The Century Tribute – From Me to Aznavour” held a press conference Thursday evening at the Hilton Cairo Grand Nile Hotel’s Nile Expo Ballroom, attended by media representatives along with prominent diplomatic, cultural, and artistic figures.

During the event, organizers officially announced two major concerts scheduled in Egypt to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of legendary French-Armenian singer Charles Aznavour.

The celebrations will take place on December 7, 2025, at the Cairo Opera House and December 9, 2025, at the Alexandria Opera House, under the auspices of the French and Armenian embassies in Egypt.

Event organizer Huda Abboud underscored the cultural and artistic significance of the centennial tribute, noting its role in strengthening cultural ties across nations.

“This exceptional event honors not only a world-renowned artist, but also the value of art itself,” she said.

In addition, she highlighted Egypt’s growing position as a regional and global hub for the arts, describing the tribute as a bridge between cultures and a celebration of Aznavour’s enduring humanistic voice.

The conference also spotlighted the participation of renowned Lebanese artist Ghassan Yammine, who will headline both concerts.

Yammine will present a reimagined musical journey through Aznavour’s repertoire, accompanied by the Nile Symphony Orchestra led by Mohammad Saad Basha.

Furthermore, Yammine expressed deep gratitude for being part of the tribute, recalling a lifelong admiration for Aznavour.

“I’ve loved him since childhood, his songs were part of our home,” he said. “I was fortunate to meet him many times, and what always drew me in first were his lyrics. Even as a musician, my bond with his writing is special.”

Recognized as one of Lebanon’s most prominent contemporary voices, Yammine is known for blending Arab musical authenticity with global styles.

He performs in several languages, including Arabic and French, and rose to fame on the “Art Studio” program before building an international career across the Arab world and Europe. His performances have long included works by Fairuz, Umm Kulthum, Abdel Halim Hafez, and notably Aznavour, whose music continues to inspire his artistic projects.

The conference also revisited the life and legacy of Charles Aznavour, often referred to as “France’s Frank Sinatra.” Born in Paris in 1924 to Armenian parents, Aznavour began performing at age nine and was later introduced to global audiences by Édith Piaf.

Over seven decades, he sold more than 180 million records, performed in nine languages, and produced timeless classics such as “La Bohème,” “She,” “For Me… Formidable,” “Hier Encore,” and “Emmenez-moi.”

His career extended to over 80 films and more than 1,400 written songs, earning him international acclaim.

He was also known for his humanitarian work, serving as a Goodwill Ambassador and advocating for the Armenian cause.

Organizers emphasized that the upcoming concerts mark a significant milestone for Egypt’s cultural calendar, as Aznavour’s works will be performed with full orchestral arrangements for the first time in the country.

The performances will feature the Nile Symphony Orchestra alongside distinguished musicians.

The committee extended thanks to the event’s official sponsors as well as media partners.
