Ahmed Issa, Minister of Tourism &Antiquities, participated in the closing festival of the "Heliopolis Week" festival, which was held at Granada Palace in the district, in the presence of Maj. Gen. Khaled Abdel-Al, Governor of Cairo.
This festival was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism & Antiquities, represented by the Egyptian General Authority for Tourism Promotion, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and the Cairo Governorate. The festival is organized by the Heliopolis Heritage Foundation in cooperation with a number of official bodies and civil society.
The festival was attended by Dr. Laila Iskandar, former Minister of the Environment, Dr. Ahmed Ghoneim, CEO of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, Amr Al-Qadi, CEO of the Egyptian General Authority for Tourism Promotion, Moamen Othman, Head of the Museums Sector at the Supreme Council of Antiquities, and Shukri Asmar, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Turath Foundation. Ahmed Issa began his speech by welcoming the attendees and expressing his happiness for his presence today to take part in this event, which came to celebrate the 118th anniversary of the establishment of Heliopolis.
The minister indicated that this neighborhood offers a unique urban experience that comes alive in the Cairo desert.
The Heliopolis neighborhood embraces many distinctive places that catch the eye, such as palaces, buildings, neighborhoods, gardens, and places of worship, which represent a fusion of various architectural arts in this unique neighborhood.
The minister spoke about the diverse and unique tourism potential of Cairo, which qualifies it to be one of the greatest tourist cities around the world.
He referred to Baron Empain's (known also as the Hindu Palace), which is considered one of the most important archaeological buildings in the Heliopolis district, which is considered a destination for visitors and a tourist attraction for the city of Cairo.
The minister pointed to some positive indicators of the incoming tourist movement to Egypt during the recent period.
He stressed the role of the private tourism sector in achieving this, and the importance of the strong infrastructure that Egypt has witnessed in recent years, including airports, roads, bridges, and the establishment of new tourist cities and their positive impact on the tourism industry.
It is worth noting that the "Heliopolis Week" festival was inaugurated last week at Granada Palace in the Heliopolis district, as it was launched this year under the slogan "A New Shine for Heliopolis".
