The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) has dismissed reports circulating on social media and several news websites claiming that new paper banknotes in denominations of 25 piasters, 50 piasters, and one Egyptian pound have been issued.

In an official statement released on Wednesday, the CBE confirmed that no new paper currency is currently being printed for these denominations, stressing that the reports are inaccurate.

The bank clarified that the paper notes currently in circulation are legacy issues released in previous years. These banknotes remain legal tender and will continue to circulate throughout the Egyptian market until they reach the end of their operational lifespan and are naturally withdrawn through the country's cash management cycle.

The CBE also explained that official data on issued currency for the 25-piastre, 50-piastre, and one-pound denominations reflects the cumulative volume of paper notes produced since their original introduction, many of which remain in circulation alongside their metallic counterparts.

According to the central bank, the only new issues introduced in recent years for the 25-, 50-, and 100-piaster denominations have been coins, with no fresh paper editions released.

The Central Bank urged the public to rely on official sources for information related to Egypt's currency and monetary policy, warning against the spread of misleading claims and encouraging citizens to verify information before sharing it.
