Indonesia’s Ambassador to Egypt, Kuncoro Giri Waseso, presented his credentials to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Wednesday during an official ceremony at Al-Ittihadiya Presidential Palace in Cairo.
The presentation of credentials marks the formal start of Ambassador Waseso’s duties as the representative of the Government of Indonesia to Egypt.
During the ceremony, President El-Sisi received the Indonesian ambassador in an official setting that included the playing of Indonesia’s national anthem, according to a statement issued by the Indonesian Embassy.
Ambassador Waseso conveyed the greetings of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to President El-Sisi. He also affirmed Indonesia’s commitment to continuing efforts to strengthen the historic bilateral relations between the two countries and expand cooperation across various fields.
Indonesia and Egypt have maintained diplomatic relations since 1947, with ties developing over the decades into a close partnership.
As two countries with strategic positions in their respective regions, Indonesia and Egypt share a common interest in maintaining regional peace and stability, as well as strengthening cooperation in regional and international forums.
In April 2025, the leaders of the two countries signed a strategic partnership document, marking a new stage in bilateral relations.
Egypt is also a major partner for Indonesia in the Middle East and remains the main educational destination for more than 20,000 Indonesian students, particularly at Al-Azhar University.
