"Carrie" TV Series Officially Greenlit

The “Carrie” TV adaptation at Amazon Prime Video has officially been ordered to series.

News of the pickup comes amidst Summer H. Howell currently negotiating for the title role, while Siena Agudong has been cast as Sue Snell.

The series was first reported to be in development in October 2024.

Amazon has ordered eight episodes, with production slated to begin this summer in Vancouver.

“’Carrie’ is an iconic story that has withstood the test of time with continued cultural relevance,” said Vernon Sanders, head of television for Amazon MGM Studios. “With Mike Flanagan at the helm and the accomplished team assembled including executive producer Trevor Macy this provocative series is sure to captivate our global customers.”

Modern horror maestro Mike Flanagan is set as executive producer, showrunner, writer, and will direct select episodes of the series. Trevor Macy will executive produce. Amazon MGM Studios will produce.

Based on Stephen King’s debut novel of the same name, the series is described as a “bold and timely reimagining of the story of misfit high-schooler Carrie White (Howell), who has spent her life in seclusion with her domineering mother. After her father’s sudden and untimely death, Carrie finds herself contending with the alien landscape of public High School, a bullying scandal that shatters her community, and the emergence of mysterious telekinetic powers.”

Flanagan has become one of the most influential voices in the horror genre in recent years.

He has received considerable praise for his TV shows “The Haunting of Hill House,” “Midnight Mass,” and “The Fall of the House of Usher” at Netflix, as well as for films like “Doctor Sleep” (itself an adaptation of King’s followup to “The Shining”) and “Gerald’s Game,” another King novel adaptation. Most recently, Flanagan adapted King’s 2020 novella “The Life of Chuck” into a film starring Tom Hiddleston.
