Against the backdrop of the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Cap d’Antibes, the Red Sea International Film Festival (RSIFF) and Vanity Fair Europe co-hosted its annual “Women in Cinema” gala.
Held in conjunction with the 77th Cannes Film Festival, the event celebrated six leading women leaving their mark on the entertainment industry through award-winning films, chart-topping music, and groundbreaking roles.
It is hosted as a part of the Red Sea Film Foundation’s ongoing efforts to celebrate emerging female voices in film, both in front of and behind the camera. The event aims to enhance the professional lives of women working in the film industry, empowering a new generation of talented and creative storytellers as well as showcase their contributions to shaping cinema and inspiring new talent in Saudi Arabia, Africa, Asia, and the Arab world.
The honorees included Egyptian actress Salma Abu Deif, French-Senegalese film director and screenwriter Ramata-Toulaye Sy, Saudi actress Adhwa Fahad, Saudi singer-actress Aseel Omran, Indian actress Kiara Advani, and Thai actress-singer Sarocha Chankimha (aka Freen).
The gala drew a star-studded crowd, with luminaries such as Michelle Rodriguez, Uma Thurman, Richard Gere, Yousra, Nathalie Emmanuel, Vincent Cassel, James Franco, Lucy Hale, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Amy Jackson, and Naomi Campbell.

Abu Deif participated in a panel discussion where she shed light on her journey, her early beginnings, career breakthroughs, her sources of inspiration, and the challenges that women face in the industry.
She also spoke about her recent role in the TV series "Ela Al Talaq", starring Dina El Sherbiny and Eyad Nassar, and how her portrayal of Malak Shehab in "Byn Al Sutoor", drew her significant attention on social media and further solidified her star status.
The series, starring Saba Mubarak and Ahmed Fahmy, hailed from director Wael Farag and screenwriter Mariam Naoum.
