The Interior Ministry unveiled on Monday that the investigations found that a booby-trapped car was behind a terrorist attack outside the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in Cairo last night, leaving scores dead and wounded.

In a press statement, the ministry said the car driving in the opposite direction is believed to have exploded following a collision with other vehicles outside the NCI building.

The ministry blamed Hasm terrorist group, which is affiliated to the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group, for the attack, adding that the car was planned to be used in a terrorist attack by a Hasm militant.

"The car was found to have been stolen from Menofiya governorate from few months, according to the statement.

"Investigations were launched to identify perpetrators of the attack," the statement read.
