A live concert in commemoration of the death anniversary of the late notable musician Fayza Ahmed and Farid Atrash will be held on Sunday night at the Cairo Opera House, under the patronage of Egypt’s Culture Ministry.

Under the direction of Maestro Salah Ghubasha, the Abdel Halim Nouira Ensemble for Arabic Music will perform a selection of Ahmed and Atrash's remarkable songs and iconic pieces, reminding people of the legacy and spirit of the late singers.

The concerts include pieces like "Ya Smar Ya Smarni" "Abou Dehka Gnan," and "El Haia Elwa" which will be played by outstanding singers like Aya Abdallah, Mostafa Gendi, Nehad Fathi, and Rehab Omar.

Born in Sham, she migrated to Egypt and became a leading singer in the Egyptian film industry. Ahmed is considered to be one of the most popular and acclaimed Syrian singers of her generation.

She started her music career at the tender age of 18, appearing on Syrian shows. Two years later, she signed to Egyptian Radio and ‘Sout Alfan’ Records.

Ahmed, better known as 'Estren Curlew' also made a name for herself as an actress. She starred in ‘Tamr Henna’ (1957) with Naima Akef, Ahmed Ramzy, and Rushdy Abaza and her breakthrough came in 1961 as the elder daughter and the obedient girl in “Me and my Daughters.”

After these major successes, she acted in six more film productions in addition to participating in theatre performances.

On the other hand, Atrash was regarded as one of the finest Arab singers and composers of all time. He captivated the imagination and entranced the hearts of millions of the Arab world.

Among his notable songs are "Alby Wi Moftahoh" (The Clue of my Heart), "Manheremsh El Omr Koloh" (May I never be Deprived of you), and "Laktob Ala Awaraa’ Al Shagar" (I am Writing on the Leaves).
