Cairo Opera House is hosting a concert to commemorate the anniversary of musician Baligh Hamdi's passing anniversary.
This event will be performed by the National Arab Music Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Dr. Mustafa Helmy, on Thursday, September 26 at 8:30 pm at the Grand Theater.
The program will include a selection of Baligh Hamdi's most famous works, such as Al-Tawbah, Tayer Ya Hawa, Zi Al-Hawa, Salam Ala, Laylat M Al-Layali, Hayat Al-Li Fat, Hobak Hayati, Mawoud, Khasara Khasara, Moghram Sababa, Al-Henna Ya Qatar Al-Nada, Layalina, A'shan Bahbak Ana, Hawa Ya Hawa, Ana Be'ashekak, and Baeed Ank.
The performances will feature artists Ahmed Saeed, Mohamed Tarek, Ayat Farouk, Ashraf Walid, Ahmed Essam, and Iman Abdel Ghani.
Baligh Hamdi was a renowned composer in Egypt and the Arab world during the sixties and seventies.
He was born on October 7, 1931, and began playing the oud at the age of nine. He started his career as a singer and later became famous for his compositions.
He collaborated with many Egyptian and Arab singing stars, including Umm Kulthum, Warda, Faiza Ahmed, Shadia, Najat, Sabah, Mayada El Henawy, Aziza Galal, Ali El Haggar, Hany Shaker, Mohamed Roshdy, Samira Said, and Latifa. His compositions were known for their simplicity and versatility, earning him titles such as the "King of Music" and the "Melody of Sadness."
He passed away on September 12, 1993, leaving behind a rich artistic legacy.
The National Arab Music Orchestra, founded in 1989, aims to preserve and present the Arab musical and singing heritage in an advanced academic and scientific manner, ensuring that future generations can learn about and appreciate this cultural heritage.
