The International Watercolor Festival (IWS) kicked off this week at the Cairo Opera House, drawing artists and art enthusiasts from around the world to celebrate the vibrant and expressive art of watercolor painting. The festival will run until Sunday, April 20.

Held annually in various countries, the IWS is a global artistic event that brings together both professional and amateur watercolor artists for a rich program of exhibitions, workshops, and creative competitions.

In Cairo, the festival offers a unique platform for cultural exchange and artistic inspiration, showcasing the beauty and technical depth of watercolor as a medium.

This year’s edition in Egypt is organized by engineer and artist Mayar Suleiman, who is also participating with her own artwork. The event features a variety of activities, including live demonstrations, interactive sessions, and displays of innovative works that blend traditional and contemporary techniques.

The festival serves as a cultural bridge, encouraging dialogue among artists from diverse backgrounds while highlighting the transparency, softness, and tonal richness that define watercolor painting. Visitors are invited to explore the artistic exhibitions and engage with creators from around the globe.

Notably, the event in Cairo emphasizes the local cultural heritage by encouraging artists to incorporate Egyptian elements and themes into their work, offering a visual journey through the country's traditions and landscapes using watercolor techniques.

In addition to its artistic value, the festival plays an important role in promoting cultural tourism in Egypt. By attracting international participants and visitors, the event enhances Egypt’s image as a growing hub for the arts and strengthens the connection between global and local art communities.

With participants of all ages and skill levels, the International Watercolor Festival in Cairo stands as a significant celebration of creativity, learning, and cultural diversity—firmly placing Egypt on the map of international art events.
