Dr. Alexander Radwan, Member of the German Bundestag and member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, affirmed that Egypt has become one of the most important pillars of stability in the Middle East, stressing that preserving Egypt’s stability is no longer only an Egyptian or regional interest, but has also become a European strategic interest in light of the rapid geopolitical transformations taking place around the world.

Radwan explained that this is a message he consistently emphasizes during meetings of the Bundestag’s Foreign Affairs Committee. He noted that Egypt is surrounded by conflict zones—from Libya and Sudan to the Gaza Strip—yet remains the only country in its immediate neighborhood that is not experiencing a major internal conflict, giving it exceptional strategic importance for both Germany and Europe.

He stated that Germany views Egypt as a key partner in promoting regional security and stability, emphasizing that Cairo has the capacity to play a central role in easing regional tensions and contributing to peace in the Middle East.

The Bundestag member pointed out that the world is undergoing unprecedented changes, both in Europe and the Middle East. He explained that the Russia–Ukraine war, together with the evolving nature of transatlantic relations between Europe and the United States, has created a new geopolitical reality that requires a reassessment of international alliances and partnerships.

According to Radwan, these developments make it increasingly important for what he described as the world’s “middle powers” to work more closely together. He stressed that Europe needs to build deeper partnerships with stable and influential regional actors, with Egypt standing at the forefront.

He further emphasized that lasting peace cannot be achieved through political solutions alone. Sustainable peace also requires genuine economic development, as economic prosperity is one of the fundamental pillars of long-term stability. For this reason, he argued that stronger economic and investment cooperation between Europe and the countries of the region is not merely desirable, but strategically essential.

Radwan also revealed that Germany is closely following the growing dialogue and coordination among Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Pakistan, considering these developments to be indicators of an emerging regional order in which Europe should actively participate to help advance peace and stability both in the region and globally.

He stressed that today’s challenges can no longer be addressed through conventional approaches, calling for policymakers to think outside the box and develop innovative solutions that match the pace of global change. New challenges, he said, require new tools in politics, economics, and development.

The Bundestag member concluded by emphasizing that Egyptian-German relations are built upon deep human and cultural foundations, and that expanding cooperation in education, investment, and sustainable development offers the strongest path toward a long-term strategic partnership capable of addressing the regional and international challenges of the years ahead.
